City has its Vision Statement

After tallying up the community votes, the City of Fort St. John has an official Vision Statement.

The winning Vision Statement, which received approximately 55 per cent of the votes, is one which contains three specific focal points regarding the community.

The Vision Statement reads “Fort St. John will be a community where nature lives, business prospers and families flourish”, the same statement which was adopted for the Community Strategic Plan months ago.

The decision to keep the same statement came as somewhat of a surprise to Kevin Brooks, City Planner for Fort St. John. Brooks says it’s surprising in the sense that the other two statements presented were created by residents within the community, while the winning statement was developed by a set of community values established in 2007.

Brooks says the input from the community was extremely helpful, as it shows the primary focus within the city.

He says the community’s input will once again be necessary, as Wednesday Aug. 17 will be another open house, which will be taking place at Patch Java from 5-8 p.m.

The open house will help explain the Vision Statement and those in attendance will have the opportunity to chat with City Planner Kevin Brooks and discuss their questions, comments and concerns. The event is open to anyone who wishes to attend and anyone with questions or concerns are encouraged to attend and express those opinions.
