Dawson Creek exhibition kicks off its 89th anniversary

One of the oldest events in the Peace River Region is kicking off its 89th anniversary.

The Dawson Creek Exhibition and Stampede begins Wednesday, Aug. 10, and runs through till Sunday with a variety of events, including chuckwagon races, a rodeo, agricultural fair, a midway and fireworks.

Dawson Creek is the last stop of a nine-day Wrangler Canadian Rodeo Tour which will fun from Friday till Sunday, says Connie Patterson, president of the Exhibition Association.

Of all the events, Patterson says one of the strangest is the kid’s wild horse race, where children between the ages of six and 12 are in teams of three and have to catch a wild Shetland pony that is let loose. Then, one person from the group has to jump on the pony and ride for at least three seconds.

Tickets for the event run from regular seating adult day passes for $25 to regular seating five-day adult passes for $130 and reserved seating passes for $160. Children under six years-old are free.

A full list of each day’s events is below.
