Fort St. John golfer posts another first place finish

A local golfer can add another tournament victory to his growing resume.

Fort St. John Native Michael Bosco recently placed first in the Dunes Junior Open, a competitive two day, 36 holes tournament, which took place at the Dunes Golf and Country Club in Grande Prairie Alb. on Aug. 15 and 16.

Bosco got off to one hot start on the opening day, shooting a 1-under-70, providing him a seven-stroke cushion entering the second and final day of the competition.

The Fort St. John golfer talked about the lead after the opening round, saying “it did make things easier. I was kind of relaxed. I knew that I could miss a shot and recover.”

In his second round, Bosco shot an 80, thanks in large part to a rough finish. The young golfer double bogeyed hole 17 and triple bogeyed 18.

Despite the less than ideal finish, Bosco finished with a six shot victory over Dunes member Sean Tomkins and Spirit River’s Jim Nicholson.

The win was Bosco’s third junior championship this season. He also took first place in the Links Jr. Open and the Lone Wolf Jr. Open.
