Local athlete takes talent to senior games

One local senior is showing that age doesn’t damper the competitive spirit.

Fort St. John resident and local athletic enthusiast Grant Spelsberg, is making his way to the West Kootenays to compete in the 2011 B.C. Senior Games, taking place from Aug. 16-20.

Spelsberg, a dedicated member of the Fort St. John Sub Zero Running Club, won’t be running at the Senior Games, instead, he’ll trade his running shoes for some spiked cleats and a bag of clubs.

He, along with his fellow competitors, will be competing in the tournament’s golf event, consisting of a 36-hole stroke play format, comprised of two 18-hole rounds over a two day span.

Results from the games will be posted as soon as the information presents itself.
