Local competitor takes first at high school rodeo

A Peace River resident is returning to B.C. with an impressive rodeo victory.

Ricky Warren, a 16 year old resident of Hudson’s Hope, is returning from Virden, Man. with a first place championship in the Saddle Bronc category at the 2011 Canadian High School Rodeo Finals.

Warren competed against five other participants in the three-day tournament, which took place from Aug. 4-6.

Warren’s Average score over three rounds was 139.00, enough to earn him first place honours in the event.

For his first place finish, Warren received a cash prize, a scholarship, as well as a trophy.
