Local golfers finish senior games on top

A group of local golfers have shown that the desire to win doesn’t dwindle with age.

On Saturday, Aug. 20, the 2011 B.C. senior games wrapped up, with three Fort St. John golfers finding themselves in the winning column.
The 2011 golf event took place over the span of two days, on two different courses. Day one was played at the Castlegar Golf Club, with the second day being played at the Birchbank Golf Club.
Steve Baverstock finished in first place for gold, in the 55-59 age group, in the low gross, high handicap division. Baverstock would win the event after shooting a two-day total of 194. His gold medal finish was his second in as many years.
Grant Spelsberg would earn himself a silver medal, for his second place finish in the 55-59 age group, low net, low handicap division. The Fort St. John resident would earn his second place finish shooting a 144 over the two-day competition.
Finally, Fred Hendricks finished third place, earning himself a bronze medal in the 80+ age group, low net, high handicap division. Hendricks’ bronze medal finish came as a result of a 222 two-day total.
