Signage for the Pomeroy Sport Centre is now projected to be $25,000 over budget.
At Monday night's City Council meeting, council awarded the construction of two signs for the centre to National Sign Corp Investments Ltd. for almost $125,000.
The budget for signage was originally $100,000. Director of Infrastructure and Capital Works, Victor Shopland, blames the overage on a lack of solid concept for the signs when the budget was set.
The construction will include a freestanding sign at the corner of 96 Street and 93 Avenue as well as a sign on the front of the building. There was the option of only tendering one building sign, but Shopland says commitments had already been made with the sponsors and the second sign may not have been finished this year.
The extra money will come from the capital project for LED streetlight conversion. The $100,000 allocated to that project will not be used this year due to changing technology and costs.
The National Sign Corp bid was the lowest bid received, despite being over budget.
