Preliminary work begins at new fire hall site

Preliminary work has begun on Fort St. John’s new Fire Hall on 93rd Street and 93rd Avenue.

While actual construction has not yet begun at the site, east of the Sobey’s supermarket, it is being fenced off, and it’s the subject of some preliminary testing.

According to Jim Rogers, the Director of Facilities and Protective Services, the city hopes construction can begin by the end of next month, and the project is expected to be completed in the spring of 2013.

10.4 million dollars has been put forward as the approximate project cost and while the contractor has yet to be selected, Mr. Rogers also says the city hopes to keep the constuction jobs, as local as possible.
