The RCMP are out in force this weekend, but for a different reason than usual.
The Fort St. John RCMP are hosting a number of events this weekend, in hopes of raising funds for the upcoming Canadian Cancer Society Cops for Cancer Tour de North bike ride.
This Saturday, the RCMP will be at the North Peace Pool parking lots, holding a motorcycle show and shine from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and a kids’ bike rodeo, starting at 3 p.m.
Kids of all ages are invited to join in the free rodeo events, where they will have the chance to learn about bike safety and to show off their skills. The only stipulation to the event is that every child participating is required to wear bicycle helmet.
The next day the RCMP will hold their own garage sale, again happening in the Pool parking lot. That starts bright and early at 8 a.m., and runs to 4 p.m. and if you get hungry, they’ll be having a BBQ from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
All proceeds from the BBQ and garage sale will go towards the local detachment’s fundraising effort for Cops for Cancer, where they currently trail four other teams for most money raised in the North.
The Tour de North is a fundraising bike ride that happens once a year in order to raise funds specifically for childhood cancer research projects. So far, the ride has helped raise over $4 million annually for the last number of years.
Anyone who would like to donate items to the garage sale, or donate to Cops for Cancer can contact Andrea Wardrop by email at [email protected] or call 250-261-5596.
