Two local sporting events receive provincial funding

Two up coming sporting events in Fort St. John will receive funding from the Province.

In total over 61 sporting events hosted in communities all over British Columbia during the coming months, announced Ida Chong, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.

The grants have been awarded to successful applicants who applied to Hosting BC in April 2011. In Fort St. John the organizers of the 2012 Canadian Age Class Long Track Speed Staking Championships and the 2012 Canadian Masters Long Track Speed Skating Champions both received a total of $8,000.

Since 2004, more than $3.5 million in Hosting BC funding has been awarded to support 329 events in more than 42 communities across the province. In 2010-11, more than 70 events were funded in more than 30 communities.
