The North Peace Ride for the Disabled will be holding a charity auction to raise funds for the unique group.
The not-for-profit is the sole organization in the Peace Region that provides horse rides for people with both physical and developmental disabilities.
One of the benefits includes less pain after riding because the person’s muscles are moving or flexing in different ways, says the organization’s Treasurer Winter Warde. She also says the program can be emotionally beneficial for some participants since they are able to socialise with a new group of people.
Warde says numerous items have been collected for the auction, which will be held on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m., with viewing and registration from 4 until 6 p.m., at the Argo Sales Yard on Airport Rd., across from the St. John Ambulance station.
All the proceeds go towards paying the costs associated with keeping and maintaining their horses for the year, including food and pasture costs.
Furthermore, anyone interested in joining the North Peace Ride for the Disabled, either as a participant or a volunteer, can contact Warde at 250-261-4801.
