Ground breaks on new Fire Hall

The current fire hall has been in use since 1969 and five years ago Fort St. John Fire Chief Fred Burrows started working towards building the new facility.

The new fire hall is set to be more than three times the size of the current one. Fire Chief Fred Burrows says it will be just less than 2,500 square metres whereas the current fire hall is less than 1,000 square metres.

He says the new hall will be able to accommodate more and larger trucks.

The City’s Director of Facilities & Protective Services Jim Rogers says they hope to have the foundation done by the end of November and continue construction in the spring.

The fire hall should be completed by spring or summer of 2013.
