Huskies welcome JDA Kings for home opener

The newly assembled Junior B team will make their regular season home debut Saturday evening against the Grande Prairie JDA Kings, formerly known as the Wheelers.

Last year the Huskies took on the Wheelers five times, beating them in three those games.

Not only will Saturday’s game be the team’s home opener, it will also give the home fans an opportunity to meet the new Huskies squad, as this will be the first time the new team hits the ice after completing their tryouts.

Assistant Coach Jeremy Clothier talked about the team’s identity for the upcoming season. Clothier said this year’s squad is the fastest he’s seen in a while, and will try to use that speed to its advantage. The team will put lots of focus on setting a fast pace for their opponents, as well as using their speed for quick neutral zone transitions.

He also talked about line combinations, and while he said the first line is pretty much set, the first few games of the season will be used to experiment with line combinations, especially on defence.

The Huskies regular season home opener will be taking place at the North Peace Arena. Puck drops at 8 p.m.
