A 19-year-old male driver, who police confirmed is from Fort St. John, was charged with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, flight from police, assault with a weapon and possession following a chase, both in a vehicle and on foot, that started around 7 p.m.

Dawson Creek RCMP confirmed the assault charge is related to the suspect striking an officer with his vehicle during the chase. The officer involved was not injured in the incident.

The male suspect has since been released from custody on conditions pending his first court appearance after appearing before a Justice of the Peace on Sept. 4.

A 16-year-old female passenger was also arrested, but it is unknown if she faces any charges following the incident.

The RCMP’s Peace Region Traffic Services initiated a pursuit of a black pick-up truck as the truck was traveling in excess of 160 kilometres an hour on Highway 97 north of Dawson Creek. As the suspect vehicle entered Dawson Creek city limits, detachment members initiated a series of road blocks to prevent the pursuit from entering busy streets.

The driver then abandoned the truck in the parking lot of the Ramada Inn and fled on foot with his passenger. Both were arrested with help from eye witnesses in the area.
