After a pancake breakfast, the riders listened as public dignitaries and event sponsors gave them words of support and thanks.
The team also heard from two young cancer survivors who thanked the team for the contribution their efforts make, especially the funds raised for Camp Goodtimes. Camp Goodtimes is a free summer camp in Maple Ridge for children with cancer as well as survivors. Part of the funds raised by the Tour go toward the camp.
In the crowd were four local RCMP officers taking part in the tour: Constables Shawn Ingham, Josh Smith and Josh Martyn, as well as Inspector Pat Egan. The group also includes two members from B.C. Ambulance Services.
The 24 cyclists began their ride just after 11:00 a.m. The first day of the almost 800 km ride will take them to Dawson Creek later this afternoon.
