Man in Motion to finally reach Fort St. John

Hansen's Man in Motion tour, which previously traveled across the world, is being honoured 25 years later, by retracing the Canadian portion of the tour.

During his original tour, Hansen was advised not to make the tough trip up to Fort St. John, and went straight on to Vancouver instead.

On March 21, 2012, the Rick Hansen 25 Anniversary Relay will finally travel to the Energetic City, which has been designated as a Community Celebration site.

The Anniversary Relay began on August 24, 2011 with the goal to reach and interact with as many Canadian communities as possible to create community-based events and celebrations which recognize local heroes making a difference.

Lori Slater, member of the Mayor’s Disability Advisory Committee in Fort St. John, has been working with the City’s Community Development Coordinator to plan a celebration in honour of the tour.

The Rick Hansen foundation has also asked that Fort St. John celebrate its “Difference Makers” during the celebration.

As a special bonus, Rick Hansen will be part of the celebration in Fort St. John, as he will personally be visiting the city along with the tour. While in town, Hansen will speak with schools, community groups and interested public.

As part of the celebratory visit, Fort St. John City Council has authorized that up to $4,500 be allocated to the 2012 Community Promotion account for the event.
