FSJ Mayoralty Candidate Backs CTF Taxpayers Contract

The contract includes ten points, including a commitment to keep municipal tax increases at or below the provincial rate of inflation.

Candidates signing the contract have also promised, if elected, to introduce a Taxpayer Protection Bylaw in their community.

A CTF news release says this is similar to what the B.C. Premier and cabinet face when the province is in deficit.

It would enshrine the contract's principles, and enforce a provision for a 15 per cent mayoralty and council pay cut if property taxes are raised beyond the rate of inflation without explicit public consent.

Tomorrow night, the local mayoralty and council candidates in Fort St. John are scheduled to participate in another 7:00 election forum at the Pomeroy Hotel, hosted by the local Chamber of Commerce.

It will follow a dinner with the three mayoralty candidates, also hosted by the Chamber, and scheduled at the same location, beginning at 5.30.
