Carter Page opened the scoring with a deflection to put the Rage up 1-0. The Bears started their trend of fighting back with a late goal to tie the game.
The second period was lit up with offense from both teams. Dawson Creek would take the early stranglehold with back to back goals coming from Scott Fellnermayr on the power play and Ryan Matthews with a beautiful wrist shot. With the Rage up 3-1 Kenai seemed to wake up as they went on to score 3 unanswered goals including 2 power play markers. The score was 4-3 for the Bears as the second period came to an end.
The third period had the hometown Dawson Creek team fighting to gain some momentum with numerous scoring chances and solid defensive play. Brown Bears goaltender Austin Severson stood tall denying all of the Rage’s late chances. Kenai went on to score an empty netter to finalize the score at 5-3.
The Rage will face the Bears again tonight at the EnCana Events Centre. The puck drops at 7pm.
