Fort St. John will not host 2013/2014 B.C. Seniors Games

Instead, the B.C. Senior Games Society has chosen Kamloops for the 2013 Games and Langley for the 2014 Games.

Eight bids from seven communities were submitted for these Games. The Society says they decision was based on "the strength of requirements, facilities, financial commitment, and other supporting documentation offered."

Fort St. John has previously held a Winter Games back in 1984. They have also put in a bid to host the 2014 Winter Games. The City would have also had to put forward a minimum of $45,000 cash and $50,000 in-kind services.

The B.C. Senior Games is a multi-sport event held by a different community each year, and features athletes aged 55 and older. An estimated 3,500 B.C. seniors will compete in 24 or more sporting events during each of these Games.

The bidding process for the 2015 and 2016 Games will begin in January of 2013. Council will have to decide before then if they want to submit a bid again.
