Erica is a reporter for Moose FM and energeticcity.ca in Fort St. John, B.C. She grew up in Victoria, B.C. and received her Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec.

The City is encouraging anyone with a green thumb to register, for the chance to win a gift certificate to Home Hardware. Gardeners' efforts also help prepare the Energetic City for the upcoming Communities in Bloom competition.

Residential properties can be judged on their front yard, back yard, or both, as well as a container garden or vegetable garden. Non-profit and commercial properties can enter their main entryway, a container garden or vegetable garden.

Entries will be judged on originality and functionality, as well as the quality, variety and upkeep of the plants. Bonus points will be given for green initiatives like rain barrels, solar lighting and drip irrigation.

The deadline to enter is July 16, with judging taking place between the 18 and 19 by members of the Alberta Horticultural Society Association. There will be first, second and third prizes in each of the residential, non-profit and commercial categories, with winners announced July 20.

If you're interested in taking part, download the registration form included below. Forms are also available at City Hall, the Visitor Information Centre, or online on the City’s website at www.fortstjohn.ca, listed under Community Programs, Celebrate! Fort St. John.
