The school's current gym was built when it was only an elementary school back in 1969 and is now too small for the school's older students. The proposed expansion will better suit the 144 kindergarten to grade 10 age range.

It will also include space for Neighbourhood Learning Centre services for the Flatrock community. The specifics of what will be offered will be determined by consultation with local partners in the coming months. Peace River North MLA Pat Pimm says these upgrades will help both the school and the community grow.

"An improved Clearview gym would serve as a valuable asset to the Flatrock, Goodlow and Cecil Lake communities, their students and families for years to come," he argues.

In total, the upgrades will cost an estimated $3.6 million, with the rest of the cost covered by the province's FairShare economic development program, School District 60 and the Peace River Regional District.
