The term mystery shopper refers to an individual who is hired by retailers to evaluate the quality of service in their store by anonymously gathering information.

The scam promises individuals mystery shopper status after paying a fee for information about the certification program, a directory of mystery shopping companies or a guarantee of a mystery shopping job.

In reality, mystery shopper jobs require no certification.
