According to authorities, the fire was set using scrap construction materials, such as plywood and wooden beams, and it is still unknown how the fire was started, or who it was started by.

However, Fort St. John RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says authorities believe the fire was lit purposely and the material was gathered into a pile prior to being lit on fire.

Fort St. John Fire Chief Fred Burrows says the incident is concerning because of the location of the fire, which was behind a new development within the city, as well as the fire ban within the area, which has been extremely dry over the summer making it easy for fires to spread.

Luckily, no injuries have been reported as a result of the field fire and no property was damaged.

RCMP say they have no witnesses, and anyone who saw anything is encouraged to contact the Fort St. John RCMP detachment at 250-787-8100.
