Curtis Redpath of the Fort St. John Fire Department says they believe a tire may have come off a trailer, resulting in the creation of some sparks on the side of the road.

Redpath speculates the sparks landed in a nearby ditch, causing the fire to ignite.

He says the fire may have come in contact with some hay bails and dry grass, but the fire did not affect any structures within the area, and no injuries resulted from the incident.

The airport road was closed for a short period of time as the fire was contained, but as of approximately 3:50 p.m., emergency response vehicles have left the scene, and the regular flow of traffic has resumed.

Forestry officials were also on the scene to aid in putting out the blaze.
