Minister Fast says the main focus of the initiative is employment, while the Canadian Government continues to maintain outside investors.
“Our government is focused on what matters to Canadians: jobs, growth and long-tern prosperity. Attracting foreign investment is key to these efforts, and our government will continue to take steps to ensure Canada remains and investment destination of choice.” Fast adds, “our government continues to create the conditions needed to attract the global investors who create jobs, and new sources of economic growth and prosperity in our communities.”
The funding, which was originally announced on a national level on October 1, is provided under the Invest Canada-Community Initiatives program, which helps communities, organizations, as well as Canadian economic development agencies attract, retain and expand foreign direct investments.
The program supports various municipalities, non-profit organizations and public-private groups at the local level, working through partnerships and cost-sharing arrangements.
Prince George-Peace River MP Bob Zimmer, says backing such initiatives is a priority when considering the well being of the region.
“Both the federal government and municipalities share the objective of bringing new investments to communities across Canada. That is why we are proud to support activities by both Northern Development Initiatives Trust and Initiatives Prince George to attract investments. In these globally challenging times, we will continue to support initiatives that help bring jobs and prosperity to our region.”
