The bonus paid for each of the drilling licences and leases was less than $2 million, and they covered just over 8,700 hectares, putting the per hectare price at$ 816.77.

The sale left the year-to-date bonus bid total at about $109 million, and there's now a strong possibility that this will be the first year in the 21st century that the final total will be less than $200 million. The province narrowly avoided that dubious distinction last year, when a$ 60.3 million December sale pushed the 2011 total to $222.6 million.

The final sale for this year is scheduled for December 12th.
