Game one began with the Generals striking first, scoring the opening goal at 1:06 into the game. The Flyers evened the score up at 1-1, thanks to a Todd Alexander goal at 9:38 of the first, only to see Bentley retake a 2-1 lead just 22 seconds later.
The Generals took control of the game in the middle period, as the home team scored three goals on Flyers goalie Troy Hunt, compared to the single goal produced by Fort St. John’s Jeff Fast, concluding the second with the Generals leading 5-2.
Bentley’s offensive outburst wasn’t done, as the home team scored another three goals in the third, versus two by the Flyers from Matt Shuya and Rick Cleaver.
Game one of the double-header wrapped up with the Generals emerging victorious 8-4.
The second meeting between the two clubs produced a much closer tilt, but unfortunately saw the same results, with a 4-3 Generals victory.
Game two began much like the first meeting, with Bentley scoring first, as the Generals scored the lone goal of the first period at the 14:56 marker, wrapping up the period leading 1-0.
It was a more of an offensive game in the second period, as both teams managed to make it on the scoreboard. The Generals added to their lead just 5:04 into the period, then extended that lead to 3-0 at 11:58.
However, the Flyers managed to get themselves on the board with 4:32 left in the second, scoring their first goal of the game on the power-play. Unfortunately, the two goal deficit didn’t last long, with the Generals scoring with just 57 seconds remaining in the middle frame to conclude the second leading 4-1.
The third period was a strong one for Fort St. John, who allowed no goals scored for the first time in the two games played, while scoring twice on the power play. Todd Alexander scored his second of the weekend at 5:39 into the third, followed by a Luke Middleton power play marker with 1:22 remaining in the game. Unfortunately, there were no late game-tying heroics, as the Generals completed the weekend sweep 4-3.
After their first taste of AAA hockey of the season, the Senior Flyers will return to NPHL AA play, until the clash with the Generals again in another double-header series, this time being played in Fort St. John.
The next meeting between the two squads will take place January 5 and 6, being played at the North Peace Arena.
