Morrison’s victory, completed on Calgary’s Olympic Oval, had him beat out the top five fellow skaters by 1.7 seconds, as he crossed the finish line at 1 minute and 44.73 seconds.

Finishing second in the race was Regina’s Lucas Makowsky, with a time of one minute and 46.43 seconds, with third place going to Mathieu Giroux of Pointe-aux-Trembles, Quebec, at one minute and 46.47 seconds.

These trials are used to help assist in identifying teams for the first five World Cup events of the 2012-2013 season. The first long track World Cup event is being held Friday, November 16-18, in Heerenveen, Netherlands.

The first event will feature all competitive distances.
