Morrison up for B.C.'s Senior Male Athlete of the Year

Last year was his ninth international senior season, during which he was the 1,500 metre champion, competing in his sixth career World Single Distances Championships in the Netherlands. He competed in all six World Cups and the World Cup Final, winning three medals in the process: a silver medal and bronze in the 1,000 metre and silver in the 1,500 metre.

Morrison received the nomination in the Senior Male Category, and is up against some stiff competition.

He will be up against fellow Olympian Ryan Cochrane, who won both Silver and Bronze medals in the long-distance swimming category at the 2012 London Games.

Morrison is also taking on professional cyclist Ryder Hesjedal, who athletic achievements reached a high point this past summer, placing first overall at the 2012 Giro d'Italia.

Morrison and his fellow nominees will have to wait to hear their name read out loud until March 7, when the 47 annual awards are held, this year taking place in Vancouver’s River Rock Show Room.

Former winners of the award include NBA All-Star Steve Nash, as well as the Man in Motion, Rick Hansen.
