That also includes "mystery shopper" scams, when a cheque is mailed to cover the costs of mystery shopping tasks, and will likely have to use a money transfer company to transfer a large portion of that cheque, which will turn out to be counterfeit. Police ask that if you suspect you are the target of fraud, to report it to your local RCMP detachment or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

The second scam Dawson Creek residents have experienced is a fax that promises to share $54 million if personal information is given. RCMP advise never providing information to anyone who promises money at the end of the transaction, as "if it sounds too good to be true, it likely is".
