Ryan Harvey is the pro shop manager at the golf course. He explains that winners can advance to a number of different tournaments, and goes into detail about the structure of the qualifying event.
“It takes people to a variety of different possibilities, we have three juniors competing this year, so they can go to, depending on their ages, B.C. Bantam, B.C. Juvenile or B.C. Junior,” Harvey explains. They we’ve got about eight people competing for the B.C. Amateur and another four, for the B.C. Senior. It’s good to obviously have here, and it’s good to have some representation from the area go to these tournaments too.”
Harvey adds that while the start wasn’t ideal in terms of the conditions on the course at the start of play, he and the players were happy with how things came around as play progressed.
“It’s been good so far. It started off a little rough, but the greens are coming around now,” Harvey says. “They seem to be enjoying themselves and having a good time. I know there was some pretty good scores shot yesterday, so we’ll see what they rest of the day (Sunday) brings.”
Overall, over a dozen golfers from the area took part in the qualifiers.
