Chevron recommits to western Canada

Chevron Corporation will build and operate the first large liquefied natural gas facility in the Kitimat area on B.C.’S northwest coast, although an article at the end of last week in the Financial Post still has final corporate approval 18 to 24 months away.

With big acquisitions this year, the Post suggests the American majors – notably Chevron and Exxon Mobile – have decided to take a second look at Western Canada rather than leave the potentially lucrative Northern B.C./Alberta unconventional resource development to Asian companies.

It also reports that in addition to its Calgary workforce expansion, Chevron will be opening a Vancouver office to deal with the B.C. government, and is also expanding its project design team in Houston.
