Head Coach Gary Alexander admits the loss was a tough one on the players but says the team will learn from the defeat.

“They’re not happy which they shouldn’t be. It’s never a pleasant thing to lose a game in a tough situation like that,” he says. “It’s early, we can see where we can fill a few gaps. We had them on the ropes at one time and we kind of backed off and let them back into the game. It’s just another learning experience.”

The team struggled to begin the third period and found themselves playing outside of their usual style of play. Alexander says that, coupled with not playing the game the Huskies are accustomed to contributed to the loss.

“They came out prepared to get back in the hockey game and we went out there a little bit off from what we had been playing,” he explains. “We started playing that wide open hockey Grande Prairie likes to play. We just fell off a little bit. Those things happen and you have to bear down for 60 minutes. That’s all there is to it.”

Daimon Derouin was stellar in defeat for the Huskies. After last night’s shutout, he stopped 36 of the 39 shots he faced in the game.

Scoring for the Huskies in order were Blair Karasiuk and Daylen Pearson, while the assists went to Braylan Eklund, Blair Karasiuk and Shane Rutherford.

The Huskies next game will be at home once again as the team takes on the Fairview Flyers at 8 p.m.
