In the final of the SunLife Competitive Division Vavrek squared off against Tom Sallows of Grande Prairie and Vavrek won the game in six ends by a score of 7-2. Vavrek says the weekend was great for the team despite losing a game and having issues reading the ice at the start of the tournament.

“The whole weekend went pretty well. We had a shakey game in the A qualifier. The ice got the best of us in some games but as a team we pulled through really well and I’m really proud of the guys,” he says. “We were up against a really good team in Tom Sallows. The third is the former skip of the team I’m skipping now so there’s a bit of a rivalry there. We played them in Grande Prairie and they beat us so it was good to come back and beat them.

Vavrek pointed to the team making more shots this time against Sallows’ group as well as having an edge in reading the ice as the main reasons behind the win this time around.
