The male was been identified but his name will not be released as notification of next of kin has not been completed.  The male is not from the Fort St. John area.

The preliminary investigation suggests the 22 year-old male driver was attempting to pass a tractor trailer unit when he was hit by a third vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.  The exact cause of the collision is under investigation by the RCMP and B.C. Coroner Service.

At this time, it is not known if winter conditions or speed were a contributing factor.

The highway was closed for almost 6 hours for the investigation and accident clean up.  The highway is now open in both directions.
