Fort St. John Relay for Life raises $88,500

Brenda Baumeister is the event organizer for the Fort St. John portion of the event. She says Relay for Life is the main fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society which supports people who are dealing with, or have dealt with cancer.

“The Canadian Cancer Society covers all cancers, it’s not just a specific one or two. It helps us with support for our cancer survivors as well as their families. It’s for research as well as preventative stuff,” she explains. “The money that we raise today, yes it’s a bonus of course we need it for all those reasons. We have teams that go around and raise money. We’re also here to support our survivors, they are the brave ones.”

Baumeister adds that without the support of local businesses or the general public the event would not be as successful as it is.

“Motive 7 Inspections is our event sponsor and we have many others,” she says. “Fort St. John is an amazing town. People just come out and are there for you. It’s really an amazing event because everyone comes together.”

Meanwhile the Dawson Creek Relay for Life is scheduled for June 14.
