Dr. Paul Mackey from Fort St. John was recognized for the Award of Excellence in Rural Physician Mentorship.
The Excellence in Nursing Practice award was presented to Program Coordinator for the AIDS Prevention Program/Needle Exchange, Linda Keefe, and Manager of Maternal Child at UHNBC, Leslie Murphy, both from Prince George.
Head Nurse in Tumbler Ridge, Barb Schuerkamp was also given an award in the same category.
Meanwhile, the chronic disease management program’s initial work was also the topic of discussion during the meeting, an initiative started in 2013 to guide steps into planned services for patients living with one or more chronic disease.
Cardiac/stroke, renal, blood borne pathogens, oncology and diabetes are all transitioned into “a more effective and efficient method to provide care”, as part of northern health’s continued work “to integrate services into a more holistic patient centered approach to care.”
The board also updated the emergency preparedness initiatives underway in the Northern Health region, working in collaboration with Health Emergency Management B.C. “to create regional emergency plans for mass casualty or disaster events”, while undertaking exercises to test the plan currently in place.
The next meeting is scheduled for October 22, 2014 in Prince George.
