More money needed for the maintenance of wildfires

President of the Union of B.C. Municipalities, Rhona Martin says a resolution will be presented at the UBCM convention in September seeking to have the province re-instate the Wildfire Prevention Initiative.

“They have renewed it in the past and we’re hopefully that they’ll do so again,” Martin said. “It does provide a necessary funding for many communities to move forward with the protection of homes and infrastructure that’s in the communities.”

The Ministry of Forest, Lands and Natural Resource says $61,000,000 has already gone to local governments and First Nations.
