Active wildfires producing heavy smoke in the South Peace region

There are several large fires burning in the Williston Lake area, including the Mount McAllister fire, which is affecting the air quality of many regions.

The Mount McAllister fire continues to be a serious challenge for firefighters, as the hot and dry weather is hindering their efforts.

Fire Information Officer, Jill Kelsh says the security of containment lines remain the top priority at this time while they continue to engage in burn off procedures.

Heavy smoke is also being reported in Tumbler Ridge and Chetwynd.

The total of 178 active wildfires is contributing to smokes condition in many areas around the province.
