Former Taylor resident dies in police custody

Media Relations Officer of the Alberta Justice and Solicitor General, Michelle Davio is tight-lipped on the details of Kowalczyk’s death, but has confirmed a fatality inquiry and an internal board of inquiry is underway, as always when a suspect dies in a correctional facility.

During the search for Kowalczyk, he was wanted on a number of warrants in Calgary, Chestermere, Crowsnest Pass, Viking, St. Paul, and Olds on charges of fraud over $5,000, fraud under $5,000, and breaching conditions of his release.

There were also similar charges awaiting him Weyburn, Saskatchewan.

Kowalczyk was alleged to have been luring victims through online classifieds for high value items such as farm and industrial equipment.

Police say he took the deposits for the items but didn’t provide the product.

Kowalczyk was being sought on similar charges a year ago by Fort St. John RCMP

Kowalczyk passed away on Monday September 22 in Calgary Alberta.
