The idea to have a block party started last year to coincide with the radio station’s tenth anniversary on the airwaves said Moose FM General Manager Adam Reaburn. It provided the station with a platform to express their gratitude to Fort St. John.
“The idea started as a way to celebrate the radio station’s tenth birthday. We thought what can we do to say happy birthday and say thank you to the community. We want to make it more into a community event and to celebrate the community and bring people into the downtown core,” he explained.
The North Peace Savings & Credit Union Main stage, will have local musicians and street performers from all over Canada. Find out who is coming by visiting our website www.moosefmblockparty.ca.
Then there is the Spectra Energy Kids Zone. This special area of 101 avenue from 100 street to 102 street is just for kids. We will have lots of inflatable toys from Evangel Chapel, a petting zoo, face painting and a special kids stage sponsored by the City of Fort St. John. On this stage, you’ll see special shows, just for kids.
“We had so much fun last year we thought ‘how can we make it bigger and better this year?’ We worked with the City of Fort St. John to get four blocks closed as well as our staff here worked really hard to make all of the details happen. We want to see it grow, we want to see this happen and be a bigger event so we decided why not, lets make it four blocks instead of one,” Reaburn stated.
Along with more street performers the Moose FM Block Party will also have the Classic Cruisers, Evangel Chapel will be putting on a family dance from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. and there will be seven food vendors.
As part of the preparation required to put on the block party 100 Street from 100 Avenue to 102 Avenue, and 101 Avenue from 98 Street to 102 Street will be closed Saturday morning beginning at 6 a.m.
