The design phase is already underway, slated to be completed in the winter of 2014/15, while construction is planned for 2015.
One of the goals for this project is to increase corridor capacity and reliability, as well and enhance safety, according to the office of Peace River North MLA, Pat Pimm.
“Highway 97 is our province’s primary north-south route,” Pimm said in a written statement. “In addition, the corridor north of Fort St. John has recently become increasingly busy with the development of the natural gas industry in the area and this project will help further cultivate economic growth and increase traffic safety.”
In addition, Pimm’s office says the project will support economic growth in the natural gas, forestry and agricultural sector in the region.
