The boundary extension includes a total of 11 parcels on the city’s west end which are seen as an appropriate location for both residential and commercial growth.
“This extension will provide for new commercial, retail and residential development opportunities that have been asked for time and time again by our residents,” Mayor Lori Ackerman said in a written statement. “It is important that, as a municipality, we create opportunities for appropriate and sustainable development that ensures the success of our northern communities.”
After hearing the news, Peace River North MLA Pat Pimm says he’s “happy to see the government respond positively to the Fort St. John boundary expansion, especially with the pace of development at the present time and what could be expected in the next few years.”
The city says the new boundary extension “makes vacant land available to meet the growth and development requirements of the community.”
