Vehicle collision shuts down Highway 29 for 9 hours

The collision was reported at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday evening near the Donis Road on Highway 29, resulting from a northbound Volvo crossing a double solid line and striking a southbound Escalade head-on.

Both vehicles had a male driver and a female passenger.

Three of the four occupants has reportedly sustained injuries, and both the female passengers had to be extricated by the fire and rescue team after finding themselves trapped in their vehicles.

The passenger from the Volvo is suspected to have a broken leg and was transported to the hospital. The driver declined medical attention.

The driver and passenger from the Escalade have undetermined internal injuries and were transported via ambulance to Fort St. John hospital.

Highway 29 was closed until 7:30 a.m. on September 1st to allow the RCMP ample time to investigate the collision.

“The collision is still under investigation, however speed and alcohol is believed to have been a factor,” a press release from the RCMP reads.

The drivers and passengers from both vehicles are from Hudson’s Hope.
