Huskies back at .500 with win over Blades, turn attention to Navigators

Assistant coach Jeremy Clothier said the rink in Beaverlodge presents challenges but the Huskies cashed in on their chances and came away with the two points.

“Beaverlodge is always a tough rink to play in because it’s quite a bit smaller than any other rink that we play in, in the league so they like to jam it up. I felt our boys moved the puck well and created some opportunities early in the game but we didn’t capitalize early but it came later in the game.” he stated.

A win for the Huskies was key given the team’s upcoming schedule. They have three straight games against the North Peace Navigators including two this weekend, then a home date against the always tough Grande Prairie JDA Kings. The good thing of the Huskies is that three of those four games will be played on home ice.

“It would obviously be nice to get two wins out of it but they’re going to be tough. They’re always tough. They’re well coached but if we play like we have been the past couple of weeks here, everything seems to be getting a little bit better every game,” he explained. “Our defence was a little bit stronger in our own end. We cleared pucks out from out in front of the net and just competed better along the walls and in the corners.”

Both games this weekend will be at the North Peace Arena with Saturday’s contest starting at 8 p.m., and Sunday’s at 1 p.m.
