NDP wants changes made to Carbon Tax and emission limits

The amendment would make changes to the emission limit of three different industries, which MLA Herbert wants applied ASAP.

Proposed schedule of regulated operations and emission limits, as dictated by MLA Herbert.

Another element to the proposed amendment would also change Part 7 of the Carbon Tax Act. MLA Herbert’s contention around Part 7 seemingly surrounds the ability of industries emitting greenhouse gas to be exempt from the Carbon Tax.

The following is text from Part 7 of the Carbon Tax which MLA Herbert wants to see deleted.

(n) providing for exemptions from the payment of tax, or for refunds of all or part of the tax paid, with respect to a fuel or combustible that is a source from greenhouse gas emissions of a regulated operation under the Greenhouse Gas Industrial Reporting and Control Act that has a compliance obligation as defined in that Act.”

Based on the information provided, MLA Herbert did not include if, and what change of text he would like Part 7 to read.
