B.C. Hydro and LNG Canada power deal

The agreement carries LNG Canada assurances that if it makes a positive investment decision, its facility will be an environmental leader.

Natural gas turbines will be used to drive the refrigerant compressors used to chill natural gas into liquid form, and this is the first power agreement signed in the province with a liquefied natural gas proponent.

Premier Clark is calling the agreement an important step forward in LNG industry development, as it pertains to “one of British Columbia’s largest and most promising proposals.”

The news release announcing the deal concludes by noting this is an important step forward, but before the proponent makes a final investment decision on the proposed project, there are several other significant milestones still to be achieved relating to gas supply, final cost estimates, labor arrangements and regulatory approvals.
