Jim Eglinski, former Fort St. John Mayor and local RCMP Detachment commanding officer coasted to victory with 62 per cent of the vote in the west-central Alberta riding of Edmonton-Yellowhead.

The Liberal vote total however, jumped from three to 20 per cent, and the official opposition NDP candidate finished third with only eight per cent.

It was much closer in the Toronto area riding of Whitby-Oshawa where former Whitby Mayor Pat Perkins took an eight point victory over his Liberal opponent in the riding of the late Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty.
