“Members competing from across our province will be vying for a spot on the B.C. Long Track Speed Skating Team that will compete this February in the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George,” a press release written by Director of Recreation and Leisure Services, Ross deBoer reads. “Many of our local skaters will be working hard to prove their skills to be a part of the provincial team.”
deBoer adds, “This is a great opportunity to see some fast paced races on the oval and cheer on the Fort St. John Elks Speed Skating Club.”
For the last three years, the National Long Track Speed Skate Competition was held in Quebec, but this year competitors from across Canada will be coming into Fort St. John to compete November 28 – November 30.
“In order to prepare the oval for this high calibre event all public, family and lap skates will be cancelled from Monday November 24 through to the end of the competition Sunday November 30, 2014.
The regular skating schedule will return December 1.
