Second period dooms Senior Flyers in big loss to Grande Prairie

After the contest head coach Gerard Dicaire had a lot to say, especially considering he laced up the skates and played on the blue line.

“We just fell apart there. We got over-anxious on our forecheck and guys trying to create to much throwing blind passes. It seemed like we were always chasing from behind into our own end. They’re good three on two and they move the puck well so that’s where we fell apart,” he explained.

The bench boss has been on record a few times saying he believes the smaller league this year will create more excitement between the existing teams, and last night was a prime example as there were skirmishes after the whistle, and lots of verbal banter.

“Like I’ve said before with the smaller league now there’s going to be rivalries. I think it’s good to get everyone’s blood going. We don’t like Spirit, everybody knows that. We were just talking about how it’s a different hatred for these guys because there’s an arrogance to them that they don’t deserve,” Dicaire said.

Despite the large discrepancy in the score at the end of the night, the game was packed with end to end excitement for the entire 60 minutes as illustrated by the 49-48 shot total in favour of Fort St. John.

Scoring for the Flyers in the game were Joey Massingham, Rick Cleaver, and Jeff Shipton.

Next for the Flyers is two exhibition games in Fort Nelson tonight and tomorrow. The next league game for the Flyers will be next Saturday in Spirit River.
